Another Day Off
By Anthony Douglas Gere
Well hello again. Maybe I should just keep a daily journal when I just go out and have
fun with my friends. You see if you know it or not, this is my first sequel to a theory, and I
kind of like it to tell you the truth. You know though the majority of my theories revolve
about love and passion, I do my best to have the m different in their delivery and such.
But anyway, I wrote another theory called, My Day Off”, and it detailed one of my R&R
moments, and what me and my friend on hit. Well this one is very very similar. The
difference in this one is that I am in another part of the State, and the day off, wasn’t a
day off, just a down time after a business trip. I was in between meetings and hours
before a flight when this day took shape. Now to clue you in, this theory will cover a lot
of things. It may seem on the surface to center around a sporting event, the media,
marketing and things in that arena, but it goes far from that. It all revolves around the
definition of a man, a moment and what constitutes this description. Now, very rarely,
does anything live up to the hype. Very seldom, do we all feel this energy in the air, and
it centers on an event that has been in the making for years before it happens. I’m
speaking about the Rose Bowl, and how for once in a very long time, two teams met
under the optimum circumstances and dealt with rewards that far exceed imagination.
You have the top two colleges in the country playing on the largest stage anyone could
think of. USC, that has more tradition that your grandmothers dishes, is playing a
football crazed school from Texas, that if it weren’t for oil, Chopped & Screwed Music
and the hit show Dallas, would only be known for that. I was recently down there
sewing up on something’s, and went into this sports bar, promoting the California
College with a bunch of good ole boys. It was all love, and though we had surfacely in
common, our love for sports, wiped away all forms of prejudice, and we shared cigars,
beers and great conversation. Now living in NYC and California, I don’t get to see the
University of Texas play much, because weekends are basically designed for the
significant other and me. So I didn’t really know much about his school, and heard bits
and pieces about them, and how they are really really good. But here on the left coast,
the Trojans have the moxy, the looks, atmosphere and a few guys that play for them,
that could easily go down the street and become a actor like Marion Morrison or Luke
Skywalkers creator. USC has been back-to-back national champions, and the have
this superhuman player named Reggie Bush, and steady hand at quarterback, Matt
Leinert. Matt is actually friends with Nick Lachey, so you know those two are living it
up large in Tinsel Town, and riding this ride like no one before them.
Now what you might not know is, the Heisman trophy is the highest honor any
college football player can get. The legacy of previous winners is the example why
you go to powerhouse schools like this. Just winning the trophy dam near
guarantees you millions upon millions of dollars for the rest of your life. Not just
because of the prize, but all of the perks that come with it you create, and what it
creates within you. At the ceremony, both USC players were present, and this black
guy from the Longhorns, that has basically stayed quiet and has been handling his
business because that’s all he knows. Reggie Bush had a phenomenal season, and
truly deserved the trophy, but in the mind of the man that didn’t win it, it was his
measuring stick on how he failed himself, not the millions of dollars in not winning the
award. After they awarded the award to Mr. Bush, they interviewed Vince Young, and
asked him for his comments. Being so naturally gracious and respectful, he
acknowledged the greatness of his competitor, but hinted that he is by far, the best in
the country, bar none. He promised that on the largest stage imaginable, he would
regroup, elevate and show the world what they obviously didn’t see or could understand.
