Blue Skies In Red Eyes
By Anthony Douglas Gere
Perception. How do you perceive what you think and more than ever, why do
you do what you do, and justify your objective accordingly? Now I’m not an
authority on telling anyone anything about them self, but I am on what I
perceive it to be when brought to my attention. My thoughts and
interpretations are based on my experiences and the projected outlook on
the out come that may affect me and those around me, that I have in mind
and safe guard with my love and or admiration. I mean think about it, who
am I to tell a drug addict that this or that drug is bad for them, when I don’t
know what drove them to that life altering process to begin with, or simply
what makes them feel the way they do when they take it, or even more, when
they don’t. What does come into play is the way it affects those oblivious to
the traits and symptoms that fuels the engine of replenishment to the
addict, and how they deal with the aftermath of their doings, unwillingly or
on purpose. Most people don’t understand people, which is why racism
and prejudice will always be an issue in the book of life. I guess that is
why I often look up into the heavens and wonder why I see blue skies in
rose colored glasses, reflecting my red eyes when I blink.
A while ago I remember going to Bombay, India and having the hardest
time trying to figure out why people are starving and cows are walking
freely through the streets. What was not known to me at the time is the
belief they have in certain elements and the meaning of life which is
encouraged by living in harmony and not dying in sin. Once things were
explained to me, I was aware of the situation, but could not fully
understand it because my culture and most influential times in
developing my character, did not revolve around such beliefs. You see,
I eat everything on the cow except for the moo, so though I learn to
appreciate it, I did not fully understand it. Now what this tells me is that
if you can take that scenario, and apply it to race or religion or creed or
sex and language, you are the minority of someone's major
characteristic in what makes them what and who they are. So judging a
thing, someone, similarities, differences, race or pageant can not be
represented by most if they don’t understand the smallest thing about
what it is and their thought process along with it’s way of life.
