Feelin’ A Bit Like Dorothy
By Anthony Douglas Gere

I’ve been getting a lot of mail from viewers asking me more and more
about me, and what entailed the perils of my journey through life, that
brings upon these theories.  It’s a fair question, because up to now, I have
found out that a great deal of people are viewing my thoughts and deserve
to know more about me.  Well let me just say this, I am just me, and don’t
see myself any other way.  I think I have overcome a lot, but I could say the
same about everyone I have met, so none of this seems to be out of the
ordinary or anyway special to me.  Its all about perspectives and how we
see the things we do and don’t through life, and how we sit down or stand
up to the responsibilities of those actions.  But in my up and coming novel
about my life, it does take you on a roller coaster ride, and gives you the
shotgun seat to my own little personal carnival.  It talks about me in the
military, college, my childhood, in prison and how I entered into corporate
America , now retired and what writing actually does for me.  If any period
of time is the most eye opening to me, I would have to say it had to be
when I was incarcerated.  I wouldn’t wish that towards anyone, but then
again, it isn’t that bad either.  Now, without even knowing it, you are
wondering what did to get sent to Club Fed, and how long my stay was.
Well I could tell you everything right here, but trust me, there isn’t enough
room on the page for me to fully explain it to you, my reasons for doing it
and why it wasn’t an option for me, not the courts.  But while being in a
confined place, what really got to me was freedom, or the lack there of it
for the sake of what I was accustomed to.  I will tell you that I didn’t go to a
place you see on the HBO hit “Oz” or anything close to that, and it was
more like a summer camp for millionaires.  It was really more like a high
educational facility for crooks, and as I told the judge when he sentenced
me, there is a difference in those that appear before him.  There are
criminals that knew what they were doing, and those that broke the law
that did what they had to do, for whatever reason. I mean yeah, the results
are the same, but how you enter into this domain is very very different,
because it actually places your mindset in a mode to understand what
you did or didn’t do.  While spending a lot of time with yourself, you have
the ability to look at who you were, are and want or wish to be.  You either
think about how you got caught and how not to get caught the next time, or
you face yourself with both eyes open and close off the world to place
yourself in a better state of mind in not being put in that position to have
your freedom taken again.  But while in there, I met some of the most
incredible people.  Men that had no chance, no hope, no vision and
settled on their fate, before they even knew their destiny.
