Hearsay, Listening to That Other Person                                     Page 2
By Anthony Douglas Gere

As I kept horizontally climbing and networking on the level I was at, I found out
that not following the people on my level is sometimes smart, and taking
pieces of them that got them to this level and leaving out what will not take
them any further in my opinion, even smarter. I basically start creating another
person in my mind when interacting with others, and still remained loyal to
myself and what I displayed. This may sound crazy, but if you follow me, I think
you will understand. You see I have always been confident in me. Some will say
arrogant, some say genuine and humble and some other things. But I have
never really had an identity crisis or issue, and pretty much like being me and
have always been smart enough to know how dumb I am in areas I can not
control. But I knew and still know I was and am not the end all to be all, I am
smart enough to know that. I know I was created and in this world that is
massive, what I am is less than shit to someone that doesn’t now me, and
possibly, the shit for the ones that do. So out of habit what I often did and still
sometimes still do, is create another person in my mind, with the best of the
people I meet, to build this super person, I can related and refer to at my
disposal and convenience to keep climbing when I might be stuck or idle. You
see early in my life, my grandmother would take me places, and my family, take
me and my sister and a few cousins on one of those OG Summer Vacations to
exotic and traditional spots, and I truly think, that was a really big thing for me.
Now I am not a big ad man for traveling even though I do it a lot, I am one that
enjoys staying home. I truly enjoy sitting in my backyard with friends and family,
and watching the world play before us on television or online. I know, its kind of
contradictory, but in all seriousness, I’m cool where I am at, and send
blessings and good will to those elsewhere, and only hope, they are doin’ it like
I am. But I do travel a lot, and have been around the world, 5 times and visited
dam near every major country in the world. I have seen those cultures we think
we understand, walked in the villages in Africa and yelled like a beer drunken
fool at European Futbol or Aussie rules. I’ve eaten sushi in China, had Kim Chee
in Cuba, Mexican food in Ireland and down home southern Bar-B-Que in many
parts of Canada. Religiously checked out the freedom in Amersterdam and
sucked in the thin air attitude in The South of France on yachts the size of
homes in third world countries I went to for business and pleasure. But to me,
its all the same, just done a little differently by people doing it like they wanna
do it, the same as me. That’s what I think was cool about growing up in
Berkeley, all of the different people. Kinda like a potluck with all of these
different foods, that are completely nuts, but sane at the same time. The
majority of people from Berkeley will not bother anyone, but affect everyone on
many levels by being him or herself. I mean in California, and maybe this is in
other places too, but did you know that besides human rights, the homeless
have rights that pretty much, superceded other rules and regulations if you are
not homeless? There is a man that has a large lot of land in Palo Alto near
Leland Stanford University that has to go to the city to help him remove people,
squatting on his land in tents and shit. He just can’t asked them to move or
force them to, well he can, but legally, they need to be escorted out, and Lord
help him, if someone gets hurt on the land, they can actually sue him, and it is
his land. Is that crazy or what, I mean in California, where else can you turn to a
television station daily, and watch a car chase on the 405, and not trip and
actually cheer for this fool waving at the helicopter cameras, driving a Ford
Pinto like a Nascar Driver at Daytona. I’m serious, this shit is nuts, but also
sane for those that know what I am talking about. But the rest of the world isn’t
like us, but then again, maybe they are because all types and walks of life
migrate here, and I sometimes think that is why it is so cool, when we do travel
or see things in other parts of the world in our own world here in The Bay Area.
