Let It Snow
As a child being raised in the colder climates of the country we spend a lot of time
enjoying the season of winter. It was a wonderful sight for me to watch the seasons
change from fall to winter then spring to summer. It’s a mixture of climate that you don’t
get to experience in every part of the world. For me personally I tend to go for the
warmer climate but I will tell you that I have had some fond memories of what I called
the winter wonderland. It was like building sandcastles on the beach, we would make
the streets and sidewalks our beach during the winter. Bundled up from head to toe with
almost three layers of clothes we would run outside look up at the sky in anticipation.
The view was gorgeous to see this white fluffy stuff falling everywhere covering the
ground and everything in its path. Now driving in it was another story but I was just a
child then and all I was thinking about is how much fun my friends and I were going to
have playing in it. Standing outside my house almost knee deep in it I could hear one of
my friends two houses down shout “I just seen on T.V. its going to be at least three feet”
with pure excitement in her voice. Let the fun begin I shouted back as we both starting
digging towards each other to create what we called secret tunnels. Down the whole
block the kids would build these tunnels from house to house as our parents watched in
amazement. It was a different feeling to have this wet, slippery stuff just melt in your
hands and watch it grow inch by inch as it hit the ground. All down the street for as long
as I could see kids were everywhere. We would wait for the street cleaners to come to
plow the streets so the cars can get by. When they did we would all sing our favorite tune
as they passed us. Here they come I could hear the truck but what you heard more than
this loud piece of machinery from house to house was the kids popping their heads up
singing to the driver as he passed by Let It Snow… Let It Snow… Let It Snow…..
Now we all know that winter can be brutally cold almost to the point of frost bite in some
cases if you not careful. Keeping that in mind I want to share a story with you on how
this precipitation could actually be enjoyable even as an adult. The other day my man
and I shared a nice breakfast and just as we finished the phone rang. It was for him one
of his boys wanted him to come over to help him take care of some business. As he
kissed me goodbye he had this sparkle in eyes that could light up the room. He smiled
grabbed my butt and said “I will see you later tushie love you so so much. Now this is
nothing unusual since him and his boys are really tight and whenever they call he is
always there for them. About an hour passed by and the phone rings me thinking it was
him I said so you miss me already huh! Then with a sigh in my voice I realized it was the
wife of his boy that he went to visit. She was talking a mile a minute I could barely catch
every other word. Girl slow down whats up? She takes a breath then starts to speak. You
know you man is here right, I said yeah. She then continues is he ok? I said yeah why
he was when he left here. He has this glassy look in his eyes and he is walking around
the house like he is on cloud nine. But hold up that is not the worst of it I heard him and
my man talking. “About what?” I said to her. It’s the weirdest thing he mentions the word
snow a couple of times and when I looked over at them they both smiled. Is he taking
something you know what I mean that white powder stuff I heard it called snow a couple
of times on the street. He just seems way too happy and when he passed me by in the
kitchen he kept hymning this song. I couldn’t make it out so I asked him what are you
singing? Now just to let you all know we live in one of the warmest climates in the
nation and it was the middle of July. What did he say I ask her? He said to me it was the
song called Let it Snow, Let it Snow ,Oh baby Let it Snow!
It’s the middle of July she said is he crazy. All I could do is burst out laughing. Ok she
said I don’t get it can you fill me in before I start thinking the both of you have lost your
minds. Being raised on the east coast I keep forgetting that you would have no idea why
he is feeling the way he is. Now I am really curious she says tell me whats up! Ok I will
just give me a minute to put it into words in a way that I think you will understand. Now
for all you women and you men too pay close attention because this is something all of
you might benefit from every once in awhile in your relationships. Before I start though
I want you to remember that word S.N.O.W. as you follow along. Go on she said I am
dying to hear this tell miss thang what we all seem to missing. Now I didn't say all just
some of you.
