Style N’ Substance Page 2
By Anthony Douglas Gere
As athletes we are trained, taught and always told that we’re never bigger than the game,
though we try to master it and beat it daily. We can’t change it, or alter it to our own
specifications, we must play it by it’s own rules and consummate it within our own
abilities the best way we can. It’s sort of like we are fighting a ghost that will always win
and you can never see but feel, like love. But once you hear that you are something special
to it, it takes over your rational train of thought, and diminishes your sight to only focus on
that aspect of living you feel is important to you. You believe it for one reason or
another and try to make another reason until you realize your fate, that you can never beat
the game, just play it and you’re a slave to it’s freedom. So that’s why when things look
bad or dismal to me, I look to those that love and want me for me, not what I have to offer
outside of that, though that is part of me. In my experience, I’ve cosmetically been around
some of the most beautiful women in the world that didn’t give a dam about me and I
allowed myself to be used, so I can’t hate em, just respect them because I should have
known why as I should have realized when it happened. Now I’ve been around more
beautiful women that truly wanted me for me, but couldn’t separate them from the
other I just spoke about. So in the end what seems obvious to me, is when ever you find
someone or something that gives you joy and the thrill you need, stay with it and never
trade it in or spruce it up. They’ll stand by your side for the right reasons and you should
do the same. That’s the difference between Style aNd Substance.
