The Privilege & Price of Firm & Fragile Freedom
By Anthony Douglas Gere

In all of my years of traveling, this time seems more personal than business.  Though I am literally
traveling abroad to conduct business, my full attention seems to be gravitating towards the more
personal side of my life.  In the past on my vacations, I worked a little, as in many of my business
trips, I've personally played a lot.  But this time is different, and I'm feeling the change like never
before, once again.  Its a growth thing I think, or a realization of a immature state I have fully
acknowledged over time.  I can't pin point the source of this shake up, or credit one certain moment
I was in debt to.  But I can search for the answer, while asking questions to the person I was and
am now in this transformation.  The main focus of this, or bottom line comes down to one word, or
should I say the word its self, when you define it.  It comes down to communication, but it also
entails how we comprehend what is being communicated, coming and going inside our capacity
tank to understand what's being said.  It is said that the mind can only understand what the mind
can comprehend, and that all depends on what you believe.  I believe in the power of silence, as I
do the opposite, so maybe its the meanings of both, that determines what you hear, and what you
don't listen to.   One may think this defines imagination or a wide scope of acceptance, as one may
also think that a thought is biologically cyber, until said to a solid mass collecting this energy.
Maybe when this force is gathered, communication that is, it is re-entered into the world as
something else.  If so, it goes beyond that, and defines the confining and restricted things that
flows free, and how you pertain to those things in areas that can comfortably challenge you to
be uncomfortable enough to seek a understanding or comprehension of things that keeps that
comfort.  Something that is freely discipline so to speak, or being a slave to mastering
something greater than yourself.  Okay I agree, a little confusing and a bit much, so let
me break that down piece by piece, to give you the whole picture on what I'm trying to say.  In
life, there might be opportunities that may be great for you at the moment, and when you take
advantage of them then, may limit your growth beyond that moment.  I say that because you
only see what is in front of you sometimes, not what's ahead, or the damage it is or could be
doing.  Like that saying, " all money isn't good money".  That's so true, because the price of
that easy, fast or free gift, may come with things you never planned on paying for.  They may
satisfy something for the now, but what's happening now, will be the affects seen or felt later
on.   So its not always good for the long haul, but right for the moment, when that moment is
based on the freedom now, or slavery later on.

Now some things you may encounter may not seem right for you, but inside of that, you
must try to comprehend why, and allow that knowledge to keep you from using your energy
to even make that choice again in your future.  But will that formula work, I don't think so.
Because what was good then, may not be now, and what could be bad now, may be good
later.  It may be based on your awareness, growth and interaction towards it and self.  Its
somewhat like money if you really think about it.  Money, in its purest form, is not power,
just a derivative of it.  Money, and ones ability to generate it and utilize the surrounding
components of it, is powerful and offers true freedom.  It allows the freedom to select, the
freedom to decline, and based on how one wants to use it, the freedom to wait.  But
money, when stagnated or idle, is like a un-read book on the shelf, something to look at
and not used to harm or help open doors to better yourself or others, and therefore, a
worthless investment.  So this change I now feel, may not be a feeling at all, but
something real I can't touch or put a finger on.  But it is there, and I'm feeling the affects
now on what I've done, or what's to come.

I wonder if you the reader equate a goal and dream in the same contents?  If you think a
dream and goal, mean the same thing, or achieved in the same effort, manner or
performed in the same arena?  A dream to me, is something imaginary, that reality
sees as unattainable through conscience thought.  A goal, something realistic, and set
forth based on ones capabilities and efforts one has knowledge of.  Why many I
feel never reach their goals, is because their goals are not goals, but things that are
reachable from a un- challenging or achieving aspect.  Its like someone saying, I can't
afford something with what I have, instead of, how can I afford something with what I
have available.  Better yet, do I really need it or just want it because I don't have
it?  Now just because you may get it, what was the price?  Will it continue your vision in
climbing, or stabilize you in a idle comfort to worship a moment that has gone and left
behind your meaningless prize for that meaningful price.  As the great tycoon Henry
Ford said, " thinking about something, is the hardest work anyone can do.  Not the
act of doing what was thought of ".  He was always asked many questions about things
out of his element, so when he couldn't answer the questions by experts in those fields,
many thought he was a lucky idiot that created the Ford Motor Company, that has
generated jobs, families, billions upon billions of dollars and avenues for others outside
of his company using his product.  What they never realized is that he was a C student in
school,  but an A student in life.  He knew he was not gifted in certain areas of business,
so he hired those that were to protect him from himself, and secure everything around him
that he created from within.  He kept his mind clear to concentrate on things he did well,
which was life and then needs of a common man.  His ability to recognize demands in
building things that make the building stand, was his gift.  Its a mindset, just like this
theory.  In reading this, it will define you and how you basically look at me, your life, comprehension
and interest in understanding what I'm talking about.  To some, this may
be perfectly clear, others, Ebonics. Some, broken Spanish, and others, nothing at all.
