We All Gotta Eat
By Anthony Douglas Gere
Before you go any further, stop. I mean keep reading, but stop looking at the words
individually and try to find a rhythm in the un-syncopated beat. What you are about to
witness is not an easy read, so relax and go back and forth if you have to. I am about to
paint a metaphoric montage that will develop into a isolated portrait, so allow the colors
to dry, as I paint this masterpiece in front of your very eyes with my brush, which is now
my keyboard. Where we start on this theory, is where we will end up, sort of (smile). As
many of you know, I am one of those people that sometimes if not more than often,
write like I talk. I may confuse you, lose you or even dis-interest you at first, but if you
persevere, define the contents and not the delivery on how I bring this to you, this will go
down as one of my classics. So let us first set the table and visualize this theory to
really get a grasp on my concept and futuristic tradition not yet discovered right now
within these words. Imagine if you will that the entire world is a restaurant. The plate
that you will eat on is your own personal world or state of mind. Now on this plate,
whatever meal you would like to order will be served to your liking or however
interpreted by your server. Also understand that the universal language is spoken in
here, so in some rare cases, things will get mixed up a bit, so don’t get discouraged.
Your mind and choices, the menu with all sorts of exotic, traditional and unique meals
you may have prepared for you. You have other people also eating in this restaurant
you have now visited, and many more wanting to occupy the space you are now in.
Within this place, you have waiters, table guides, coat check people, wine servers,
dishwashers, valet parking attendants, a mater de, chef, cashier and like I said, your
mind is the menu, so select wisely. Here is a clue and some advise to you, do not
order what your eyes may see, but order what your stomach can handle. Now others
are also viewing the same menu as you that do not work there, but due to certain
criteria’s, resources, availability and other factors, things are served on a first come
first serve basis determined by the restaurant owners and management. The price
list also varies, and it is based on your status, race, age, gender, religion, clothing
attire, your routine in frequenting this hot spot. Also, your undeniable ignorance to
the obvious you learn like going through life plays a significant part, so you are a bit
cautious. Now in this moment that you seem to have been waiting for all of your life,
you are glancing around the dining room of the restaurant, which is the world,
noticing what others are ordering; who is who, who is there, what others are wearing
and slightly ease dropping in and out of others conversations next to you. You even
somewhat become an amateur lip reader, as you see others smiling, frowning and
more. You even look at who you are dining with, and drift into a place where you are
replacing them with someone else, but quickly return back to your table as you now
realize where you are at. But you’re still wondering, what took you so long to get
here or come back, knowing your time is limited and you are most certain destined
to depart. You also want to order the best thing on the menu, but you are constantly
reminded on how the things you order will reflect on you, your needs, wants and
more. Everything on the menu looks great to you; I mean even the appetizers are
presented in such a way, that you may not want to eat your main course later. You
tease yourself and taste them visually while viewing the menu, and
sub-consciously looking around and asking the waiter if that dish is worth
ordering. I mean hell, even if you don’t finish it, and you don’t take my advice and
solely order with your eyes, you can take it home. But then it’s not the same, and
somehow it will have lost the affect and won’t taste the same as it would in this
restaurant, so you allow it to remain on the menu, as you now are finding your
groove in this fine eatery. Now before your main course arrives, you say a prayer. It
maybe short, drawn out, for appearance purposes or heart and soul felt, but you go
through this rendition like it is routine in your daily ritual of eating. There are also
tools for you to eat with. There are forks, spoons, a knife and a glass and goblet for
your choice of beverage. These things can also be labeled in a metaphoric way as
you replace the fork with your will, the spoon your focus, the knife your determination,
knowledge, guidance your glass and goblet and more. Your dining areas also has a
nice table cloth, a napkin, finger bowl and in some cases, even a bib if you don’t trust
your self and get a bit carried away with the food. Now imagine this setting, the
atmosphere, environment, people and all. Imagine this is your moment to eat! Now,
imagine this restaurant, is your world, and all you ever wanted, available.
