What’s For Dinner?
By Anthony Douglas Gere
Long day at work ya’ll. Between meetings, traveling back and forth, too much coffee, not
enough Blue Label, phone calls and answering questions, I’m craving a quiet night at
home. An evening where the couch and me become one, and allow the television to
watch us for once. Have you ever had one of these days? Yeah I’m sure may of you are
screaming, “ Duh, what about everyday single dam day Mr. Theory Writer!!”. So if that is
you, I apologize for not being sensitive to your daily routine in this, and continue with me
with gloves on (smile). But if this is one of your days, take it beyond the norm, and
accelerate it to a level of mental and physical exhaustion. Now if many of you don’t know, I
rarely eat meals during the day. I’m one of those lost souls that when I eat, I get sleepy.
Sluggish and totally non-productive, so I keep my meals to a minimum during the
daytime. I may snack on a few snickers, a small salad or some nuts, but you will rarely
find me engulfing a full course meal during the daytime, unless I plan on counting sheep
for a while. Now the fun or entertaining parts of my day, stems from the drama, or
alternative ways of discussion during my day. To have a salesman come into your office
that’s making about sixty or seventy thousand dollars a year, and convince you to spend
much more than that based on his opinion, is humorous to say the least. I’m not saying
their ideas are far-fetched or crazy, but if they were that good, why aren’t they doing it
themselves? At least that part of my thinking. But hey, everyone has to start somewhere,
and you cant hate a snake for biting; just the fool that thinks it has no teeth. Any way, what
many view as distractions or obstacles to a person, I view as inspiration to what I’m trying
to accomplish. As I wrote many times before, “ An obstacle or distraction is the thing you
see when you lose focus on what you are trying to accomplish”. So I’m one that believes
in our legal system, and when things do get a little bit out of hand, I just let my lawyers
do what they do best, and sit back and enjoy the show. Now though my physical size is
above normal, and the stereotype of athletes or ex-sports participants are labeled as
sometimes being animalistic in resolving situations, I’m more of a finesse type person
on how I deal with things. To quote Michael Jackson, “ I’m a lover, not a physical fighter”.
I wouldn’t even say I’m a physical type lover so to speak, because I personally enjoy the
mental stimulation, or romantic foreplay before starting and finishing off the physical
involvement with the person I’m involved with. But I’m a fighter; just not in a way most
people would think. So besides being a little worn out from my day and a bit hungry,
I’m ready for this day to end. So as I call down to have my car brought around, pack up
my brief case, shut down my computer, leave my office and ride down the elevator, I’m
thinking about my evening to be. While doing all of this, I’m once again going back
and forth with the thought of me on a couch, or me on a warm and soft body. I’m
thinking in my mind, what am I going to do for dinner.
Now one of my serious quirks is, talking on the cell phone while driving. That
without a doubt, is one of the most dangerous things anyone can do to themselves
and others. I actually dislike talking on the phone period, but know that’s a form of
communicating instantly, and the way of the world. But don’t you get pissed off when
you are forced to listen to someone talking a little bit too loud to someone on the
other end of the phone, when you are standing in line, trapped on the subway or
trying to concentrate on something in a public place? But then again, it is a public
place, and the first amendment, is what makes this country great. But you know what
I mean. When people go a little bit over board, and its like you want to grab the phone
and explain what the person is trying to say to shut them the hell up! But that doesn’t
come close to the dangers of people talking and driving on the road. Multiple studies
verify, claim and prove that ones reaction time to any and everything in dealing with
conversing on a phone and driving, decreases sixty percent! When one is engaged in a
telephone conversation while driving, people concentrate more on the conversation,
than the thousand pounds of metal that can alter ones life in a heart beat.
