Where I Need To Be, Right Now Page 2
By Anthony Douglas Gere
Anyway, while downing and refilling my goblet, I drink Johnnie Walker Blue Label, I
am falling deeper into an upright position on my life, the world and how I see it
while getting a little buzzed off of the feeling, not the drink. Its funny, I have always
tripped off of the things my parents would know when I was younger, and
wondered, how in the hell did they know when I was doing something right or
wrong when they weren’t around? But if you are a movie buff and freak like me, in
the movie, ”Baby Boy”, Ving Rhaymes told Tyresse Gibsons’ character, “ Ya’ll
youngsters think you’ve inventing the wheel, and the shit you’ve done and are
doin’, is a fuckin’ re-run to me”. How ever so true, because though time and the
times do change, certain things stay the same and constantly and consistently
repeat themselves out of necessity. It’s a formula, a pattern and the way of life that
nothing can deviate from that pattern without being punished or destroyed for the
sake of mankind. That’s why there are jails, laws and rules. Not that those
parameters are right or wrong, but they were set in place many years ago, to
basically protect and save us from ourselves. So while I may not be able to run
as fast or jump as high as I used to, I am now able to make up for the lack of
physical skills with experience and skill. The late great Richard Pryor once
said in his stand-up routine, “That you must respect old folks, because they
didn’t get old being no fool. They’ve seen and been through some shit, and
can tell you more stories you can’t even imagine. They’ve forgotten more than
the youngsters have learned, wasted more than you have gathered and more,
so as a youngster, you gotta listen to old folks sometimes, because there are
a lot of smart young mother fuckers dead as hell from thinking they are
smarter than the system, and the old folks, are alive and kickin’. So who is
really dumb and who is smart?”
So now while I’m sipping a little bit more and exhaling a bit, I’m now lighting
a stogie, no purple for those that may think I’m getting’ blazed, and truly
getting comfortable for what is about to come, a new theory. Where this all
began was me reflecting, and getting an email from an old flame. Someone
I was somewhat involved with, but also detached because I had so much
going on at the time. That’s a sensitive topic to me, because one of my
strong traits is my loyalty. I think that defines a person while also defining
your ability to be loyal to the things you may think are important now, then and
in the future. But everything isn’t for everyone that is why in my opinion; there
are stages, levels and tiers in society. The tolerance level, ones level to
discover, foresee and focus, separates most things from its opposite. I know
that when I was climbing up the ladder, if I would have had someone by me to
support me in ways I could not support myself, I would feel indebted to them
for life for just simply being there.
