Where I Need To Be, Right Now
By Anthony Douglas Gere

Out of the millions of places I can be or want to be right now,  I truly believe that
where I am at right now at this very moment, is where I need to be.  You see I’m
sitting here going through things that didn’t make sense to me a while back,
that have now faced me while my back was turned on love and life right now.  It
should be noted that I learned at an early age that the only way to go deal with
things is to go through the door that has halted or progressed ones progress.
So as of this moment, I am wondering which door I should select and this
seems like the most obvious one to date.  You see I’m in a luxurious suite in
the middle of freakin’ nowhere , glancing out of a Victorian style window
overlooking what seems like the world in front of me, drinking a little somethin’
something and listening to one of the greatest mix of music I can ever
remember.  The title of this Moodsetter disc is called, “Unda Tha Influence”,
and trust me, its doing its job and living up to its title.  On here there are songs
ranging from new to old, smooth to heart wrenching, and I have automatically,
fell into one of those zones I have now started to frequent since getting away
from what I am now looking at outside of my window, the world so to speak.
Am I in seclusion, not really, but I am mentally away from what has physically
followed me around like my shadow for the past few years and loving it.  It was
once told to me that you can’t run from yourself, and I agree, though I was
trying to be Carl Lewis with a few issues I had back in the day.  I guess when
you start getting older and slowing down a bit, you start seeing things a bit
more clearly, and most of the time, laugh at them and thank God you made it
out alive when you look in your rear view mirror and see the carnage.  Even
when I may go play basketball with my God-son or with youngsters at the
park, what I was able to do when I was their age, I now realize I can’t
physically do them now.  It’s not like I am out of shape or carrying around a
keg instead of a six pack, but the old body just aint what it used to be, but
neither is the mind.  My God son says that I’m like a box of Tide detergent
now on the basketball court, All Washed Up.  I sit back and laugh, I really do.  I
simply laugh and teach them that the lessons on life, are constantly taught
by those that select to listen and learn, so while they are running around the
court doing things I used to do, I am now seeing the un-necessary
movements in looking cool or flashy, are far from needed.  But on the music
disc, it flashes back to PM Dawn, Alexander O’Neal, Howard Hewitt and New
Edition.  It also contains a gentle mix and has the new Anthony Hamilton, Mary
J., Dwele, Mariah and Jamie Foxx.  The mix is incredible, and hopefully one
day, you can experience it and feel what I am hearing.
