Christopher English was born in 1950 in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. His statement on his creative style of writing and painting: I show the symbolic images in my paintings as a complement to the imagery evoked in my poems. Ideas for the symbolism in my art derive from my poetry. Content of artwork is allegorical, full of metaphor, connotation and ambiguity. I start a painting with a combination of several images from a poem. Discovery and suggestion from my imagination emerge during the painting process and are a supplement to the poetry. The result has the intrinsic value of both poem and painting. Indeed, I show where the ideas in the paintings came from, hence this publication of my poems and paintings together. The still life paintings and the life drawings are very much part of the development of my creativity, therefore I also include them to give an overall insight to my work. About the Author
My life has been full of the usual changes, disappointments, disillusionments, passions, mistakes, hopes, joys, ecstasies, and sorrows. Disillusioned early with any ideology or dogmatism, I turned to music, studying at the School of Performing Arts and the Juilliard School of Music. But my hunger for ideas was stronger than my lovefor music, and so I went to Queens College and majored in English and creative writing.
The impetus for many of the poems remains my desire to be a voice for those who want their thoughts and feelings turned into poetry. That is why my poetry is written from so many points of view and expresses such a variety of philosophies and life experiences. My own thoughts on the matter are summed up in Rule 4 of "Rules of a Skeptic": "The only way to see something whole is from several points of view." The goal of my writing is to increase insight and growth within myself. It is my hope that by sharing the insights gained through my experiences that someone else might see themselves. Maybe they too will be able to look at themselves as see something they hadn't thought about. To contact writer email at NY.PF.VI@gmail.com
Lisa Lovell; a poet living in the UK, I love to play with words and find poems in other people’s conversations, my life’s experience and issues that affect the world.
Simplicity in writing is important to me as I like to invite the reader to read between the lines to retrieve from the poem what is in it for them as well as what the poem says on the surface. To contact this artist, please email any suggestions to her at lovell1970@aol.com.
