Yo!, What’s Your Story
By Anthony Douglas Gere
So tell me, what do you do for a living? That’s right I asked the question and by no
means, don’t think I don’t require an answer to that question. Seriously, what do you
do for a living? Do you work, work at not working, what? Do you have a job, career,
training, a trade, passion or what? What do you do, and why do you do it. Also, how
did you get your job or whatever you do? Now don’t get this confused with what do
you do while doing it, I’m talking about what do you actually do? Okay, that may been
a bit harsh, and if so, I’m sorry, but that was the only way I could get you in the frame
of mind to understand this theory. We might go to Pluto on this one, so fasten your
seat belts, and welcome to the exit stage. Oh and if you’re wondering how I know
you’re trippin’ right now, I’m the travel agent remember. I booked the flight (smile).
Now the reason I ask that question is this, I’m taking a survey ad poll on how people
get where they’re at. It won’t be published or anything like that, because more than
likely, no on will reply to this request. But I had to ask anyway, and hopefully this will
make a little sense when I explain why I started things off this way. I’m interested in
the techniques that take place in the hiring or firing process of the world. I’m curious
on how people get to where they’re at, and wonder did they do their research, or just
took what was just handed to them with out further thought. Now so I’m protected
by law, and no one can come back and say that they read some strategy on how to
hire by some wack-job that writes for this site, let me say that this was a method I
used back in the day, when I worked for someone and was looking for
employment. How I learned of this method, I’m not sure of. But I can tell you
where many of today’s men and previous youth boys gained a lot of knowledge, at
the barbershop. That’s right, the barbershop. For those of you from the female
sector, what you may or may not know is one of the most powerful, influential and
bonding moments, is a male’s time he spends in a barbershop. Where grown
men, spread a wealth of knowledge for free, while listening to this God-awful
music. I men when your a youngster, you cant understand jazz, good
ole’ bluegrass or that down home country music. You just cant, its so beyond
you, until to catch up to it later on in life. The barbershop is a sacred place,
where there’s enough shit spoken there, that it would clog up a toilet the size of
your car. Where myths become dreams, and dream are turned into legendary
events. The barber shop, where for a mere fifteen minutes in the chair mean s
nothing, compared to the hour and a half you have to wait in those uncomfortable
chairs listening to men elevate like Kobe Bryant on a fast break. It’s like a temple
or sanctuary for males, where you learn about women, how to shave, kiss, dance
and more. Where you hear about the legends, the clubs and how to handle
situations. You gain knowledge of ignorance, politics, history and more. Yeah, the
barbershop, where you don’t see disrespect, and no matter your social, financial,
community involvement or profession, you’re treated the same. Where every male
is a sponge, absorbing years is wisdom, from soldiers that have fought, won and
lost on the battlefield of life. Yeah, the barbershop, the place that molds us males
into boys and then into men.
