That's What I Think                                                                                              Page 1
By Anthony Douglas Gere

Throughout my days and nights, I am frequently asked," are you happy" and what constitutes
your answer.  Now the trivial or generic answer or response to that question is simple, but
then at some point you start wondering what do they really mean, or in dire search of.  I call
that question or any real means of communication dire, because we need to solidify
something inside of us, which is why questions are asked. There is something unsettling
inside of us that needs to be balanced. This may be to grow, to understand or many things.
But as all that know me knows, information and knowledge is power, and that is to be
respected and honored, or that power will control and destroy you ten fold.  I mean it is well
known that one man's trash is another man's treasure, but where is the common
denominator or connecting link in that formula?  I feel that I've been on each end of the
extremes, and balanced the middle to basically stay sane and sensible in my life.  But
where does that lead, and at what price should we just coast through life just settling, when
things are unsettled in our mind.  Now knowing how passionate and ambitious  I am to
achieve, my competitive spirit is humbled when I really put an honest effort in thinking about
why I'm competing.  My ego is pretty much normal, but that's another can of  worms I may
write about at another time.  But my hunger for success has always been low on my list, and
succeeding very high.  The difference is how one defines the two, and the opposite that
teaches you the level you either predicted or ignored.  So now I'm back on this happiness
thing, and what defines it universally.  At least that's what I think.

Love to me is a feeling not yet defined, but labeled by the one feeling this blessing.  You can't
describe it, because it is constantly changing, and changing you and your thoughts about it.
Its something that eliminates negative doubts, and raises positive questions.  Its not
asking for anything specific, but receiving the expectation in all that surrounds it.  It has its
own identity within you, and your happy place can be the saddest place on earth while
experiencing this type of love. Now before we go any further, understand the love I'm talking
about is not like a song on the radio, or color or materialistic object.  I'm talking about a
passion for unconditional pleasure and pain.  I'm speaking about that deep desire to
consume what has consumed you, and respecting the complete opposite that you have
been through to reach such a level.  But while feeling this love, you are oblivious to it and
everything that doesn't enhance it, and build barriers to protect it from anything trying to
destroy it.  The feeling is unconditional, and places you in a win-win situation.  For to
have this force or life cycle of power, all that you do comes from a productive place.  Its
the ultimate motivating tool to excelling, and can extend ones life by its three main
ingredients; passion, desire and honesty.  With those elements, all can survive if truly
understood, because no matter the past, place or destination, you will end up blessed
because you started from a good place.  At least, that's what I think.

Now in my opinion, humble that is, there are three forms of education. You have the
formal ones, schools / college / OJT and such.  There is street smarts or the school of
hard knocks where you adapt to your environment and learn your way.  And there's the
school of life. All come with some sort of commitment, and mostly all require some
sort of payment, be it financial, time and such.  Most people that have reached some
sort of success in business will tell you that's its not that hard.  All you need to do is
find your groove, grind in out and innovate a bit along the way.  Its simply a system that
requires certain pieces to work.  With them, you excel, without them, you struggle or
become diluted in justifications.  On the streets, you have living examples, and
consequences that can be lethal.  Your schooling is how you approach it, and your
enemies are basically those that you are conquering.  Now in life, there is no rule
book.  No instructional guide or tutorial. You must completely submit to being selfish
to survive it, and there is no formula.  Its basically a find and feel sort of thing, so as
you wonder throughout the world, you become closer to where you left off. That's
where this happiness thing comes in.  You see blending your thoughts and beliefs
with another person growing along side with you on their own seems like the ultimate
to me.  Where there is no guide, and your understanding is based on the
compromises you both need to survive.  Understanding that you can't quit, you can't
give up because you made the commitment, reaches realms of emotions not defined
by those that can't understand what you're feeling.

Happiness to me is not having physical or mental gymnastic with someone you real
y don't care about.  Its not talking about trivial shit that is not improving the way you live
and perform {because the world is a stage}.  Its not settling when you know the
difference, and you are creating your goals by the characters you see on television or in a
magazine.  Happiness to me is communicating and sharing all that you are to someone
that will accept you for your perfections and faults.  In one of my favorite movies, " meet
Joe Black", Brad Pitt ask Jeffrey Tabor, how do you know when you are loved by
someone?  He replies, "when you can tell them the worse thing about you, and nothing
has changed but their desire to appreciate you told them the truth".  Love is not measured
by numbers, verifications, size, labels or what if's.  Its what it is completely engulfs your
soul with this feeling, not a physical or cosmetic touch.  Now understand, I might be
talking out of my ass, but that's what I think.
